2) PROJECT WILDBIRD is searching for Experimental Citizen Scientists.
| We are attempting to contact birders in the states of
Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey to let them know that PROJECT WILDBIRD is searching for Experimental Citizen Scientists. The WBFI Research Foundation, a not for profit 501c3 charitable foundation dedicated to advancing the knowledge of bird feeding through scientific research and the study of food and feeder preferences of birds across North America, is searching for Experimental Citizen Scientist volunteers in your state to participate in the scientific study of food and feeder preferences of wild birds. PROJECT WILDBIRD started in the fall of 2005 and continues through the fall of 2008. There are 5 objectives of the study: 1) What are the seed preferences of birds that use feeders in the United States and Canada? 2) Are seed preferences of birds identical in different regions of the United States and Canada? 3) Are seed preferences the same at different times of the year? 4) What are the feeder preferences of birds in the United States and Canada? 5) Is there an interaction between seed preferences and feeder preferences (e.g., When a particular type of seed is available, do birds go to feeders they normally would not visit)? Upon completion of the project, the bird feeding experience will be enriched for all! The experimental approach is one of the most formal and rigorous scientific studies of seed preferences on a North American level to date.
