The Handlan Chapter of the Brooks Bird Club will have our next meeting on Monday, Sept. 15th.  This is our annual Ice Cream Social at Coonskin Park.  Meet at 6:00 p.m. at the same shelter that we've used recently at Coonskin (coming into the park, just after you climb a steep hill, turn right, pass between two stone pillars, and continue climbing; then just keep going until you get to the one-way loop road, and we'll be in a shelter on that loop).  We'll enjoy ice cream and soft drinks (you don't need to bring anything), catch up on what members have been doing since our last meeting, and discuss plans and activities for the upcoming months.
 
Also, the Fall Nature Walks will be held at Kanawha State Forest this Saturday, Sept. 13th.  Meet at the swimming pool parking lot at 9:00 a.m. to register ($5 goes to support the KSF Foundation).  Sharon Cook, Roger Hardway, and I will lead a walk titled Wildflowers, Birds, and Ecology, but there are 11 different walks on a wide array of nature topics.
