HANDLAN NEWSLETTER
November 2008
The November meeting of the Handlan Chapter
of the Brooks Bird Club will be this Monday, Nov. 17th, at 6:30
p.m. at the South Charleston Public Library. There will be an
Executive Committee meeting at 6:00. Doren Burrell will present
a program on Winter Birds. He will talk about the winter birds
we encounter in the Kanawha Valley, and he'll discuss the
strategies and physical adaptations used by birds in our area
and other areas to cope with the demands of winter.
Our Christmas dinner will again be held at the Boulevard
Shoney's (the one in Charleston where the Kanawha Boulevard
crosses the Elk River). We'll meet in a private room at the
restaurant at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15th. The buffet is
available at a modest cost, or you can order from the menu.
Our annual Christmas Bird Count will be held on Saturday,
January 3rd. Don and Marilyn Morton have once again invited us
to gather at their home for dinner that evening, so that we can
add up the totals from the different counting groups and swap
stories about what we found during the day. We'll talk more
about these events at the November and December meetings. If
you have questions, or want to be part of one of the counting
groups, call Marilyn Morton at 727-5077.
