NOVEMBER MEETING
The Handlan Chapter of the Brooks Bird Club will meet on Monday,
November 19th, at 6:30 p.m. at the South Charleston Public
Library. Members of the Executive Committee will meet at 6:00.
Laura Miller will present a program entitled "The Fascinating
World of Insects." Laura is the curator of the West Virginia
Dept. of Agriculture's insect collection. She will talk about
some of the amazing abilities and survival techniques utilized
by insects.
CHRISTMAS DINNER
We will have our annual Christmas dinner gathering on Monday,
December 10th, at 6:30 p.m. at the downtown Charleston Shoney's,
located on the Boulevard, close to the Elk River. We decided to
have the dinner on the second Monday of the month, instead of
the third, so that we aren't as close to Christmas. Also, we
can use the December 10th dinner to do some organizing for the
Christmas Bird Count the following Saturday.
CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT
We have scheduled our CBC for Saturday, December 15th. Our
territory is a 15-mile diameter circle with its mid-point being
the FMC pond on MacCorkle Avenue. You can count part of the day
or all day, at your home feeders (if you're home is in the
circle) or out in the field. We will gather at the home of Don
and Marilyn Morton that evening for food and to compare stories
and results.
We'll be talking about the count at our November meeting and our
December dinner. If you won't be at either of those meetings,
but would like to participate in the CBC, contact Marilyn Morton
(727-5077) or Jim Waggy (925-6379).
See you Monday!
