CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT
This year's Christmas Count takes place on Saturday, December
19th. If you would like to match up with other birders for the
count or if you want suggestions on areas to cover, please call
Don or Marilyn Morton at
204-727-5077. In the evening, the Mortons will host a warm-up
and wrap-up at their home in St. Albans (directions below). You
are invited to come for some warm food and to share your
sightings from the day. Please remember that the National
Audubon requires $5 from each participant to cover the
administration of the count.
DIRECTIONS TO THE MORTONS' HOUSE
2720 Lakeview Drive, St. Albans
727-5077
At the traffic light at the St. Albans/Nitro bridge and Rt. 60
(MacCorkle Ave.), turn into St. Albans (away from the river). Go
through the railroad underpass and on to the second traffic
light (Kanawha Terrace). Turn right.
Go one block (to the traffic light) and turn left. This puts you
on the main road (Pennsylvania Ave. at this point) to our area,
Riverlake Estates. Continue on this road for 2.7 miles.
Along the way, you will have Coal River on your right and, a
little further on, railroad tracks on your left. The road hugs
the tracks (the river soon is out of sight) and finally crosses
the tracks. Proceed on past the 7-Eleven store for about
1/2-mile. The road forks at this point and a sign on the right
announces Riverlake Estates. Turn right into Riverlake Estates
(don't go up the hill straight ahead or through the tunnel to
the left).
After crossing the tracks into Riverlake Estates, take the third
street going left (Lakeview Drive). Our house is 2720, the 5th
house on the left, counting the corner house. Call if you have
trouble. 304-727-5077
