One of MY ducks is in the paper!

...ok, so it's not actually MY duck, but Solo the Eider was hatched out in July at the Alaska SeaLife Center where I worked this summer.  She's living with her foster mom (a duck named Asara), in a condo on the back deck of the Center. She's the first of her species to be successfully laid and hatched in captivity. We also had another success with a red-legged kittiwake - also a first to be laid in captivity, and born to a lovely female bird named Possibility, who used to dive-bomb my head when I got too close to her
nest...
