Doug Wood gave a class on Terrestrial Habitats on May 28, 2008 (Wednesday).  This was followed by a field trip to Doug's property, "Wood'scape" on May 29, 2008(Thursday) to see some examples of types of habitats.

Here are a few photos taken on Thursday.

First we got together for a short class session.

While on a hike through the property we saw a turket nest containing old eggs.
Doug was about to put us to work

He had cut up a tree, and we were to help use the tree and brush to construct a rabbit shelter.  First the larger logs were used for the base.

Then the smaller stuff was used to consrtuct the canopy.

Doug took us to the old log house - built about 1850.

The we took some of the branches left over from the rabbit hide-away to put in the pond to make cover and protection for frogs and salamanders

Some were stopped by a frog.

Then a few needed to leave while Doug took the rest of us to see some other types of habitats.  On the way back to the vehicles we were treated to a serenade by a couple Whip-poor-wills
